Muslimommy had the pleasure of reviewing a series of books called Jannah Jewels Adventure Series. The Jannah Jewels chapter books is an exciting Islamic Adventure Series designed for young readers, which focus on Islam’s rich history. We read 3 books in the series,
- The Treasure of Timbuktu
- The Chase in China
- Bravery in Baghdad
The author Umm Nura, was inspired to write these chapter books in order to share Islamic history with her daughter in an exciting way. Her books are written to promote thousands of years of inventions, new technology and sacred knowledge in the ‘Golden Ages’ of Islam, that played a crucial role in shaping our world today. Umm Nura believes that if young people are reminded and proud of their Golden history, it will inspire them to contribute towards a Golden future by becoming the next thinkers in science, law, medicine, numeracy, literacy and more Inshallah. This is what my daughter had to say about the books.
“The main characters in the series are 4 girls and there are supporting characters that appear as well. I liked the characters because they are modest in their mannerisms and dress. When I read other books, I feel that girls are portrayed less modestly, so that was something I could relate to. Throughout the book I felt the essence of Islamic values and there was a lot of adventure to keep us guessing.
I loved the plot and the setting, because it usually takes place in the past (a favorite setting of mine), when the girls go back in time, to a place where Islamic civilization is thriving. We liked the story line where the girls usually meet a famous Muslim and have to find an artifact to place into the Golden Clock.
I felt that it was a fast-paced novel, so there was no time to feel bored, and I was excited to find out what would happen next. I sat down and read each book from cover to cover with anticipation. A big drawing factor for me, was that the characters praised Allah (SWT) frequently, which served as a reminder to myself.
I loved that each girl has a gadget to help her with a mission to find the artifact. The only thing I could wish for, was that the books were longer, because I did not want it to end. I also felt that it teaches a good moral – when the girls are in danger, they pray to Allah (SWT) for help. This is a good lesson to remind readers, that when you face difficult situations, turn to Allah (SWT) first.
Even though the characters are girls, it had enough excitement and the presence of supporting male characters to be read by both girls and boys. Overall the Jannah Jewels Series is an enjoyable way to learn about Islamic history and famous Muslims for young readers!” – Asiya, age 12
